Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology is looking for an experienced  Industrial Maintenance Technician to help maintain and improve our campus infrastructure. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for operating and maintaining high-pressure steam boilers and utility systems, as well as supporting HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems across campus.

This is more than a maintenance job—it’s a chance to contribute to the success of one of Pennsylvania’s top two-year technical colleges.

Examples of Duties

What You’ll Do

• Operate and maintain high-pressure steam boilers (up to 450 HP), boiler feed systems, and water treatment processes.
• Perform skilled electrical work including testing, troubleshooting, repairs, and installations of circuits, lighting, and components.
• Conduct water quality testing and manage chemical treatment for steam, condensate, and chiller systems.
• Maintain and repair chilled water systems, cooling towers, air conditioners, and diesel generators.
• Troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on mechanical systems including boilers, chillers, valves, and pumps.
• Monitor gauges and system performance to ensure efficient operation of utility plant equipment.
• Support cross-trade maintenance activities as needed across campus facilities.

Typical Qualifications

What You Bring

• Experience with  utility plant operations , high-pressure steam systems, and mechanical equipment.
• Solid working knowledge of  commercial HVAC ,  electrical , and  plumbing systems.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical documents.
• Commitment to safety, accuracy, and maintaining detailed maintenance records.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Vocational training or associate degree in a technical field preferred.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in industrial or institutional maintenance.
• Boiler Operator’s License (or willingness to obtain).
• EPA 608 Certification (preferred).
• Valid driver’s license.

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions

• Work in mechanical rooms, utility areas, and campus buildings.
• Regularly lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in hot or confined spaces.
• Must be available for on-call coverage and emergency response.

As an accredited technical college, we are dedicated to preparing students for high-demand careers with family-thriving wages.

Founded as Stevens Trade School in 1905, the school was initially a public institution for orphans of the state who learned a trade combined with academic education. It was begun based on a bequest in the will of Thaddeus Stevens, a statesman who dedicated his life to creating access to education and equity among those who faced injustice.

Today, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology offers two-year associate degrees in 24 programs to more than 1,400 students. In addition, the college offers four nine-month certificate programs. At its Workforce and Economic Development Center, the College features six-month and six-week short-term training in partnership with Tec Centro, along with continuing education and professional development options.
