FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Social Science Department at New York City College of Technology (City Tech), a comprehensive college of the City University of New York offering associate and baccalaureate degree programs, invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Lecturer in Sociology to begin Fall 2025. The Lecturer position is a full-time appointment leading to a Certificate of Continuous Employment. The Department of Social Science is a multidisciplinary department offering a bachelor’s degree program in Data Analytics for Economics, academic minors in Psychology, History and Environmental Studies and courses in sociology, psychology, anthropology, economics, geography, government, history and philosophy. We seek candidates who can teach sociology courses, with special consideration given to those with expertise in law and society and/or science and technology studies. Reporting to the chairperson of the Department of Social Science, the faculty member’s responsibilities include but are not limited to: Teach sociology courses at introductory and advanced levels, including in-person, hybrid, and online formats. Participate in the development and assessment of new curricula and pedagogical approaches. Provide student advisement and mentoring. Contribute to Department, School, College, and University service activities, including governance, program assessment, day-to-day operation, and student recruitment and retention, among other areas. Collaborate with colleagues to support departmental initiatives and college-wide programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in sociology or a related field is required. Also required is the ability to teach successfully and to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree or higher is preferred. Areas of specialization in law and society or science and technology studies, especially in the area of digital technologies. Experience teaching introductory sociology and advanced courses in relevant subfields. Prior higher education teaching experience, including experience with online course delivery and different learning management systems. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to collaborative work.

COMPENSATION

$69,983 - $88,998. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09%, with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/01/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/01/2026, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement. CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs. We also provide mentoring and support for research, scholarship, and publication as part of our commitment to ongoing faculty professional development.
