COMPANY DESCRIPTION

Hawaii Coffee Company is the largest roaster of Kona Coffee in the world and Hawaii's leading supplier of coffee to the Island's hotels, restaurants and retail stores. The company's products are available in the US and Japan, as well as through its website primarily under the LION or Royal Kona brands. In addition, the company manufactures Hawaiian Isles Tea, a premium line of hot and iced teas.

The company’s primary roasting, manufacturing and distribution facility is in Honolulu, Hawaii. In addition, the company operates a mill in Kona as well as sourcing coffee from numerous other origins.

POSITION SUMMARY

Contributes to the success of the Kalani Café leading a team of store partners to create and maintain the Kalani Café experience for our customers and partners. The café manager regularly and customarily exercises discretion in managing the overall operation of the Kalani Café and Lion Mobile Café. In particular, a majority of time is spent supervising and directing the team partners, making staffing decisions (i.e., hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining, discharging, staffing and scheduling), ensuring customer satisfaction and product quality, managing the cafe’s financial performance, and managing safety and security within the store. The incumbent is responsible for modeling and acting in accordance with Hawaii Coffee Company’s guiding principle.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Develops and executes sales and profit plans that are in-line with budgetary goals.
  • Ensures and is accountable for profitability of the café by growing sales and controlling costs of goods, inventory levels, labor, supplies and expenses.
  • Maintains and utilizes daily, weekly, quarterly and annual financial reporting tools.
  • Ensures proper crew member coverage and scheduling according to the needs of the business for both Kalani Café and the Lion Mobile Café.
  • Oversees all cash and media management functions. Able to perform all POS duties, front of house functions including opening and closing procedures.
  • Maintains proper loss prevention standards, reviewing cash handling procedures, deposits and safe procedures.
  • Delivers top tier coffee shop experience to customers.
  • Plans, executes and communicates all sales and new product information effectively and efficiently.
  • Identifies staffing, recruiting, interviewing, hiring and training needs of qualified candidates. Facilitates on-going training and development of current staff.
  • Partner with internal and external partners to ensure new Lion Café opens on established schedule and within budget. Ensure proper equipment and facility are set up as directed by President and external designers.
  • Deliver budgeted P&L performance goals.
  • Adherence to all applicable internal and state of Hawai’i health and safety regulations and cleanliness standards.
  • Participate in and help organize local brand events and meetings.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Deep knowledge of and passion for coffee; comfortable with the coffee barista process and basic coffee equipment service.
  • Prior experience successful managing a premium coffee shop(s).
  • Prior experience developing training programs; ideally coffee or food/beverage products.
  • Ability to perform hands on barista functions including all beverage preparations
  • Able to speak effectively in from of large groups with confidence
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Leadership experience to include managing, directing, and developing team members from a variety of backgrounds
  • Experience managing a mobile truck operation.
  • Experience partnering with marketing to develop café and brand focused promotional programs.
  • Takes ownership of all taskings; develops subordinates and peers to excel at their jobs

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Experience: At least a year of customer service and cash handling experience preferred.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong knowledge of point of sale POS software in a retail foodservice environment. Knowledge of basic Microsoft programs is desired.

Language: Well-developed verbal and written English communication skills.
