Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Physician Assistant specializing in General Surgery for a locum tenens position at a Hospital in Maryland. This 140-day assignment starts on 06/02/2025, with a flexible schedule of 5-7 shifts per week, potentially covering either 12-hour night shifts (8 PM to 8 AM) or 24-hour in-house call (8 AM to 8 AM). The ideal candidate will be comfortable providing in-house call coverage, assisting with consults, perioperative care, and first assisting in the OR. The PA will primarily handle general surgery, GI, and vascular cases, including bread and butter general surgery and limb salvage procedures. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic hospital environment, collaborating with surgical teams to ensure high-quality patient care.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:
• Provide in-house call coverage for general surgery, GI, and vascular cases
• Assist with surgical consults and perioperative care
• First assist in the operating room for various procedures
• Manage pre- and post-operative care for surgical patients
• Handle bread and butter general surgery cases and limb salvage procedures
• Collaborate with surgeons and other healthcare professionals
• Conduct patient assessments and develop treatment plans
• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records using Cerner EHR system
• Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives as required
• Adapt to flexible scheduling options (12-hour nights or 24-hour in-house call)
Additional Information:
• Must be licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in Maryland
• Experience with Cerner electronic health record system preferred
• Strong clinical skills in general surgery, GI, and vascular procedures
• Ability to work independently and as part of a surgical team
• Comfortable with high-acuity cases and fast-paced environment
• Possibility of assignment extension beyond the initial 140 days
