Vertex is seeking a talented leader to join our US Kidney Business Unit to support our aspirations of bringing Povetacicept, a Phase 3 investigational therapy with the potential to transform lives across multiple serious diseases, to patients.

Senior Director, Head of Marketing, US Kidney - Povetacicept

This role leads the povetacicept marketing team for the US Kidney Business Unit, preparing for potential commercialization of an investigational therapeutic being studied for the treatment of Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) and other B cell-mediated diseases. Responsibilities include recruiting, developing, and retaining a high-performing marketing team, developing launch strategies, and ensuring execution of launch activities. The role oversees functional marketing across HCP, Patient, Unbranded, and Thought Leader Marketing.

We seek a candidate with a strong track record in US commercial roles within highly competitive therapeutic areas, demonstrated success in coaching teams, and thriving in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment. This role reports to the Vice President of the US Kidney Business Unit and is a key member of the BU leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Drive the evolution and implementation of our go-to-market model, leading cross-functional launch plans to bring transformative therapies to patients.
  2. Build and coach the marketing team to operate as a high-performing unit.
  3. Lead strategic and tactical brand plans, including annual planning and execution.
  4. Create commercialization campaigns with key messages, disease education, and patient/HCP campaigns.
  5. Generate market insights to position Vertex therapies effectively.
  6. Use data and technology innovatively, evaluating ROI for all activities.
  7. Define and track performance goals, leading cross-functional launch readiness teams.
  8. Contribute to forecasting assumptions, short and long-term.
  9. Maintain external focus through customer and field team engagement.
  10. Develop partnerships with cross-functional teams to support business goals.
  11. Collaborate with communications to approve customer materials.
  12. Manage agency partners to ensure on-budget, timely deliverables.
  13. Model and promote a culture of compliance, ethics, and integrity.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Typically requires 12 years of experience and 5 years of supervisory/management experience or equivalent.
  • Preferred experiences include specialty product launches, working in highly competitive markets, and kidney disease experience.

Required Skills

  • Strategy development for brands in competitive spaces.
  • Insight generation and application to business challenges.
  • Analytical skills, including ROI analysis and resource allocation.
  • Knowledge of market forecasts and business drivers.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical marketing or related fields.
  • Team management skills.

Pay Range: $225,600 - $338,400

Disclosure Statement: The salary range is an estimate; actual salary depends on various factors. The role is eligible for bonuses and equity awards, with additional benefits as part of Vertex's Total Rewards package.

Flex Designation: Hybrid-Eligible or On-Site Eligible

Flex Eligibility Status: The position allows for remote work up to two days per week or full on-site work with ad hoc flexibility, subject to company policies.
